Westie Shout Out – Chaos to Calm

It’s Westie Shout out time and ur friend Chrissie from Chaos to Calm Consultancy has just turned 5 and we wanted to wish her a very happy 5th business birthday.

We certainly know that running your own business can be tough, there are many things that go unseen. We are so happy for your Chrissie – and glad to be part of your amazing tribe!

Jodie first met Chrissie in 2017 through a small business community and then went on to take herself and her husband to one of her amazing workshops.

Chrissie is also known as the ‘Child Charmer’ and empowers parents by helping them understand why children are showing certain behaviours. From personalised one on one sessions to group workshops on mealtimes as well as education sessions for parents and educators, Chrissie has a lot to offer.

She also has a family of her own, with 2 little ones and an amazingly supportive partner.

We have also had the pleasure of working with Chrissie over the past 2 years. There have been a couple of fantastic photoshoots as well as some digital marketing work.

It has been amazing to watch Chaos to Calm and Chrissie grow, creating online courses to reach people interstate, moving out of her home office and into her very own consulting suite at OfficeOurs in Spotswood.

Not to mention creating a tribe of support through fantastic events, bringing our community together.

Happy 5th birthday Chrissie. We are looking forward to everything the next 5 years has planned for you and as part of your tribe, will be behind you 100% of the way.

Westie Shout Out – Candied Bakery

This little gem on Hudson Road is always a go-to. Whether it’s a mid-morning treat or a much-needed lunch break Candied Bakery in Spotswood have you covered.

When that yellow neon sign out the front is blazing, it’s time to get your yum on. Firstly, at a basic level, you can get the most to die for organic bread. We are massive fans of their sourdough – but you can also pick up free range eggs and fresh milk. Want lunch? The cheeseburger sausage rolls or mushroom melts will get you through. Or you could even try some quiche or a kimchi hotdog.

Then there is the sweet stuff. Where do you even begin? The crusty brownie pie, the doughnuts (special shout out to the vanilla slice doughnuts), the danishes, soft serve… seriously we could go on!

The Candied Team are always friendly, even when pumping out baked goods to a queue of customers. We are ever so grateful to have such amazingly delicious treats in our hood. Surely you already follow them… but just in case here’s the Candied Bakery Instagram.

Are you checking out this event? It sounds like a cracker! There will be lots of tips on how to get your socials in order and how-tos on shooting that perfect image.

Jodes is totes excited to be working with Designer Style List’s Dan and Dani on the day. These fab ladies will be sharing their secrets to nailing your perfect headshot. So if you are going, make sure you come up and say hi!

Picturing Footscray Prize 2018

This is the very last week you can get your entries into the Victoria University annual Picturing Footscray Prize. Picturing Footscray is an open-entry photography prize that focuses on Melbourne’s unique inner-west suburb of Footscray. There is $5,000 worth of prizes up for grabs and entries will be judged by Street Photographer Jesse Marlow.
The theme for 2018 is set around Old and New Footscray. We can’t wait to see what amazing work is submitted this year. There is sure to be some cracking images come to light.
Way back in 2016, our very own Jaye, scored third place with this depiction of the Heavenly Queen, Mazu on the banks of the Maribyrnong River. Jaye shot this image using a toy camera called a Holga. It uses medium square style film.  She used a special type of film that gave the sky its gorgeous bluey-purple hue. So, even though it looks like an Instagram shot with a filter… it really isn’t!
Are you planning on entering this year? It really is a competition for the people! Get on board! Entries close Friday 27th April, check it out.

Westie Shout Out – Invite Me

What can we say about our local cute shop? Well for starters… it’s our go-to place for prezzies. But its more than that… its a bright little pop of colour on Anderson Street, usually with the amazing Amanda behind the counter. It has all the on-trend, uber cool party needs and every gift you ever wished someone would buy for you. If you don’t quite know what to get, Amanda will help sort you out.

And then there is Jane. We are such fan girls of Jane (Shh don’t tell anyone), but we’ve never actually seen her in the shop. Perhaps she is just some kind of Instagram Stories wizard from another time, who has returned to teach us how to do retail via stories. If you haven’t watched get on-board! There are 80’s dance-offs, turf wars, personal shopping tips and the legendary Pom Pom who perhaps really is the mastermind of it all…

This little store and the way they handle themselves in the digital world are a true asset to the West. We’re very grateful to have them in our hood.

Westie Shout Out – Rocco’s Deli

Our very first #westieshoutout goes to the fabulous Rocco’s Delicatessen. If you don’t know Rocco, you’re missing out. He runs the Deli on Roberts Street in Yarraville and has done so for 40 years. It’s a perfect little time capsule of Italian goodness; with friendly service, a deli bar and an extensive stock range.

It is also home to the Rocco roll! Which is a freshly made panini by Rocco himself. The best part about the Rocco roll is that you don’t really have to order it. You just pass Rocco your roll of choice, tell him which deli cut you want (always salami 🙌) and he does the rest. You just hang out and admire the shop or have a chat.

The deli is pretty much the central point between our two houses and a firm lunchtime favourite at The Little Collective. Respect to you Rocco, we love your work and truly appreciate your beautiful smile when we stop by. Here’s to many more years of Rocco rolls. You can follow Rocco’s Deli @roccos_delicatessen or

Say hello to the Westie Shout Out!

It was afternoon just after the Easter antics, and we got to chatting about how much we love our hood and how the people and businesses in the area make it so great. So we thought – you know what?! Let’s shout it from the rooftops or… at the very least our desktops!

We decided to create Westie Shout Out, where every Wednesday, we will bring you a new person or business from the West. It may be a business we love or maybe it’s a local that made our lives a little easier this week… really, it could just be someone that just smiled beautifully when we ordered our coffee. 😆

We are looking forward to sharing, whether its someone you already know or meeting someone new. From our wonderful westie world, we look forward to brightening yours… #westieshoutout
